Dr. Jafra (Ja-Fray) D. Thomas (pronouns: he, him, his) is an Assistant Professor at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, California. He teaches kinesiology, specifically in the areas of history, philosophy, social psychology, and sociology. His research agenda is to advance efforts to promote healthy and active lifestyles for all, with a focus on knowledge translation and equitable physical activity promotion. Dr. Thomas helps with the Adapted Paddling Program (APP) Lab, one of several labs offered through the course, Adapted Physical Activity (KINE 307). Students taking the APP lab learn from certified volunteer instructors about principles for safe paddling (e.g., paddling strokes) and working with people with disabilities. Students interview participants and customize two-person kayaks by adapting the boat for a safe, comfortable, paddling experiences in the Morro Bay estuary.
My name is Christie O'Hara and I am an instructor in the Department of Kinesiology and Public Health. I am one of the instructors that assists Darren Avrit with his KINE 307 Adapted Physical Activity Class and teach the Eye Cycle portion of the lab. I also teach biomechanics labs, research methods labs, motor learning and control labs, and other physical activity classes (i.e. cycling, fitness walking, flag football, swimming, etc).
